Random Mumblings : Star

“One day, I will shine as bright as the star and be like one of them.“ He told his mother as he looked up at the constellations of stars, from their balcony one night. My dear, replied the mother. You already are a star. They look like fairy lights dont they, said the mother - almost changing the subject.

No, I am not a star, said the child. If I was then...where is the light in me he asked almost as an after thought. The mother replied - you are the best gift I could ever get. You give love and warmth like the sun, to everyone around you.  You don’t need to be anyone else. You are enough the way you are. He looked away and his moms eyes met his. The mother wrapped him around her arms and hugged him. It was on this day, many years ago, he met with a road accident and lost one of his arms. Since then, he has never been the same. Yearning’s, guilt,  people’s sympathy and their looks always overshadowed his confidence and ability.  Despite one hand, all of ten though, this young little boy could paint, skate and write. The mother took his other hand and said you have nothing to fear. Who says that if you don’t have one hand, you can’t do anything. As long as I am around, you have nothing to fear and always remember - there can be no one else like you. The boy smiled. Something in his mother voice always calmed and re assured him. Years went by. He did become a star and shine he did - as a person who inspired others through his own struggle story.
