Poem : Freedom

The silence of the night had a story of its own
It's had its wound, it was scarred for life
It lay quietly beneath its wrap..it was a mystery unknown
No one knew of the silence
that was screaming out loud
It wanted to tell what it went through the day
But people lay in their security of their homes
unknown to the words that rave, ranted and spoke
No one knew of the blood, tears and wails
Or rather may be one preferred to look the other way
Smiling and cheering on
As feats were accomplished
They felt awaited a new dawn.
But the night wanted to say, how it reached there
It was in shame, as the stars and the moon shone bright
It couldn't take their smile despite their years
As they twinkled on
How could one be so strong?
It was their strength that was killing the night from inside
It tried to gathered the courage to come out and speak
It didn't have the power of the pen
It had just to rely on its words
It was the truth, the night wanted to say
The truth was hard and would come with a cost
It was the cost it was willing to pay
The world needed to know what it went through
From blue to black, it was now alone
The grey clouds were teasing her
It was as if they were challenging her
She needed to speak up and now was the time
Else it will too late
And it will just go on
As the laughter immersed from the buildings so tall
And a night light shone from the Chawls below
The night choked and how
Thunder and storm made its way, the waves hitting the rocks
Speak up night, oh you must
Tell the world what you went through
The eyes are clouded with doubts and despair
They need to open up to faith and belief
If you keep quiet now
It will be the end
It's a story that needs to be told
Words that need to unfold
And then so the night began....

As the sun rose and I was a mix of red and blue,a lady had made her way
To plough the field and earn some bread
It may be the last bread, she could ever make

Unknown to the news, her boy had packed his bag, he has just got a call to serve the country from a potential attack

And as he bade his sister a good bye
Unaware that hours later, she would get raped
By men who have no guilt, remorse or shame.
She would lay naked and no one would come forward to help
Pictures would be taken
And outcry would be there
But no one would know of the pain that the girl would be going through
Or what would lay in store of the family
That was all smiles to begin with
But the smile was now faded away
It wasn't their fault

Somewhere mobs burn a city down
Killing people from different sects
Somewhere girls are differentiated from boys
Education is something they can just dream of
Somewhere records are made and broken
And feats are revered and people are plunged to the open skies

This was when the sky was blue, the canvas was a picturesque one
Trains passed by, traffic was cars and honks
Music resonated from the sounds of the ears
As the day went on
Without a passing thought

And as the blue skies turn to black
Smoke engulfed as pyres were lit
Silence was all that was there
A deafening one, it was
Grey getting immersed with the black
These are the stories that are untold
Stories that will remain just that
Scars that are there for life
Wounds that will never heal
Words, that are battered and bruised
The cries seem so distant now
The pain we think we feel
We come out in want for justice and peace
Only to go back to the comfort of our homes
And then it all dies down
Life for us begins anew
We think we have done our bit and deed.
And then we say as a nation we are free.

But are we really free?
Where we need to think a thousand times, before we speak
Where we are judged for our action, sect and creed
Where they say we are one, but we are not acually.
Where boys and girls are not treated at par
Where there is still racism to the root
Where different religion can't be sitting under one roof
Where we love to see people fail
Where dirt and muck is the name of the game
Where the endless sacrifices are taken for granted
Where people are shouting for land and fees
As the hills look down in shame
The buildings are the droopy shoulders
The rivers can't carry this weight no more
The wind tries to ease off the burden
Nature comes to do it's bit
To help bring the glory back
But what can it do when all is left is just devastation
It tries to promise a new dawn
Hoping the storm will open the eyes
Hoping that the wounds will heal
But they don't
Night goes to day and day to night
Freedom is merely just a thousand
Tucked away somewhere in our brains
A thought is from where an idea is born
The idea is from the story is born
May be someday some one will not hush the night
And will actually say how we got free.
