Short Story : Born to Fly

Born to Fly

"Life is very much like these aircraft you see, my dear boy. You see how these aircraft need people to guide them to take off and land. In the same way, the one's who help us rise are usually the ones who are there on our way down but the only difference is that they don't let us fall" The words echoed back in his mind as he gazed outside the airport window and saw the aircraft's land and take off. He wiped the tears that seemed to be forming at the corner of his eyes as he begin to think in his mind " I wonder how he will be doing. It had been years since I last saw him. The last that I saw him was when he put the epulees on my shirt before I was to fly the first aircraft. So much has changed since then"

His gaze was broken by a reflection of the book "Jonathan Livingston Sea Gull" that he saw. He looked back and saw the book at the display. As if by instict, he instantly went in that direction of the book..the images of the book being presented to him by his father. The book was the bible, and so he was told and a must for every pilot.

As he put his hand on the book, another hand came on top of his. He looked up and saw the most beautiful eyes that he had ever seen, the eyes reminded him of some one and he felt that were his mentors eyes...eyes that were telling him - What are you doing here, when you should be there inside that aircraft.

Almost by instinct, he withdrew his hand and let the lady have the book. It was the last copy. He looked back at her, as he saw her go by. Curiosity aroused the better of him, as he followed her...and there she was, giving this book to the man - he owed this profession to. The man who always believed that he was born to fly.
